Regulation of the Aquaculture Industry

Regulation of the Aquaculture Industry

Under the Fish Resources Management Act 1994 (FRMA), anyone farming fish for commercial purposes in Western Australia requires an Aquaculture Licence issued by the Department of Primary Industry and Regional Development (DPIRD).

Information on the Aquaculture Licensing approval process, application forms and costs that apply is available at the DPIRD website at the following link:

Discussing a proposal and application for an Aquaculture Licence with DPIRD’s Aquaculture Management team before submission may save considerable time and avoid delays in having a licence issued. Email aquaculture@dpird.wa.gov.au for general enquiries.
