Director
As a Director on the Board of the ACWA, Stuart brings a strong science background with over 30 years experience as an aquatic ecologist working in both freshwater and marine systems. Stuart also has strong business and communication skills having run a successful environmental consultancy for over 20 years and having taught aquatic science and marine science at a tertiary level also for more than 20 years.
Stuart is passionate about aquaculture having partnered with the WA shellfish aquaculture industry since 1998. During this time, he has worked closely with and provided guidance to both industry members and regulators in matters relating to the Western Australian Shellfish Quality Assurance Program and has had input into several revisions of the WASQAP Operational Manual and the Marine Biotoxin Monitoring and Management Plan.
Over the last 20 years, Stuart has also provided assistance and guidance to the finfish aquaculture industry in matters relating to harmful algae, fish health and fish kills.
Stuart has an international reputation as an algal ecologist and taxonomist specializing in harmful algae and is the only algal taxonomist in Western Australia who is internationally accredited by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
